Save Big On A School Lunch

Back to school comes on quicker than we realize. School supplies, new clothes, and other expenses stay at the front of any parent’s mind. One of the easiest ways many parents save money during the school year is by packing their child’s lunch. However, what you feed your child can easily add up fast. To avoid spending too much money, here are 5 tips to help you save money on your child’s school lunch.

  1. Plan Ahead

When you’re at the store, it’s very easy to add more options to your cart. Plan out your weekly lunches ahead of time, and you can create a shopping list to determine exact items and quantities you need to purchase.

  1. Purchase Fresh Produce

The cheapest way to purchase fruits and vegetables is to buy fresh produce while it’s in season. This will also help to add variety to your lunch options.

  1. Find Out What’s On Sale

Before running out to the store or even preparing your shopping list, make sure to check your local sales options. Not only will this make sure you’re getting the best value for your money, but it may also change your decisions on what you want to make for lunch that week. Plus, don’t forget to cut coupons to get even more savings on the items you already want to purchase.

  1. Think Beyond Sandwiches

Not every lunch needs to be a sandwich. There are plenty of alternatives. For instance, if you’re child loves Lunchables, create your own. Use a container with dividers and add crackers, meat, cheese, fruit, and whatever else you want to add.

  1. Whenever Possible, Buy in Bulk

Single serve options can really add up. Instead of purchasing single serve options of chips, yogurt, or other snack options; purchase them in bulk. Many options you can still purchase single servings in quantities; or you can purchase one large bag and separate them yourself, such as a large bag of chips and use sandwich bags to make multiple uses.
