How Millennial Parents Are Making the World a Better Place

millennial parents

Did you know that close to 90% of all mothers these days are millennial parents? While that number from Goldman Sachs is being touted as astonishing, it shouldn’t be. Since the Millennial Generation are those born between 1980 and 2000, they should be right now just at the right time to be making a new generation. But the real interesting fact about Millennials is that they are not only raising kids, they are working hard to make the world a better place while they do it. And they are accomplishing this through their buying habits.

Millennial Parents And Buying Choices

Recent reports show that these new parents are spending close to $1 Trillion dollars (yes- we said trillion) each year on their kids. That doesn’t include what they put aside for college, so I am thinking that is a lot of video games and socks. But at 29% of the current US population, these parents have a huge impact on how business markets itself. With millennial parents making choices on what they buy based on who has the most “authentic” voice, companies are scrambling to improve their image. Doing good, it turns out, pays big dividends.

Companies With Social-Good Themes Pay Off

Newer companies that combine doing good with business are the ones to attract millennial parents. Think of Toms Shoes with their ongoing campaign to give away shoes or Jessica Alby’s eco-friendly The Honest Company to get an idea of what kinds of companies appeal to this generation. Old fashion mainstays such as McDonald’s and Kellogg’s are struggling to be seen, while these new businesses with authentic voices and a social conscience are rising. Could this then be the generation that finally finds the right way to have their wallet make an impact for good? The Baby Boomers grandchildren lead the way.
