You need “me” time. Get a hobby. Stay active. Go to the gym, take a dance, yoga, pilates, cycling class. These classes are usually about an hour long, enough time for you to clear your mind of whatever insanity is going on at home and concentrate on yourself. You need to remember this, if your job is MOM you will do nobody any good if you’re not taking care of yourself first. Of course the maternal instinct is to put your children first, make sure the house is clean, make sure the fridge is stocked, etc. In the long run, though, nobody will be happy if you are not happy. Make sure you have a good support system. Being surrounded by little munchkins can actually feel very lonely. In the process of cooking, cleaning, bathing, grocery shopping and all of that it becomes clear that the people you’re surrounded by don’t truly understand all that you’re doing for them. They don’t understand why you’re upset, or how you’re feeling and that can be very difficult. Date night. Make sure you have an established date night with your significant other. Children bring lots of joy to relationships but unfortunately also lots of strain as well. When you spend so much time with your children you know you are close to them and have a great bond. Make sure you have that special bond with your significant other as well.
