The Good Dinosaur – Is It Flintstones Revisited?

The Good Dinosaur

For years parents have looked forward to new releases by Pixar because you could be sure they were funny, fun and great for the whole family to head out and enjoy. But lately that hasn’t been quite so true and the trailer for the latest summer release might just continue the trend. But only if you care about showing your kids history as it actually happened. The Good Dinosaur looks cute, and the animation seems to be up to their usual good standards. The problem might be with the premise, where dinosaurs and humans hang out together.

The Good Dinosaur – Not Much Revealed In Trailer

While the trailer is short and sweet, it tells the basic premise well. What if that giant asteroid that basically wiped out all dinosaurs (well except for the forefathers of birds, which we now consider avian dinosaurs) never happened? In The Good Dinosaur we see that they were never wiped out and in fact survived to co-exist with humans. Does anyone remember The Flintstones because this film sounds a little too much like Wilma and Barney Rubble with their pet Dino. But beyond the idea of dinosaurs co-existing with humans, there isn’t much more revealed in the trailer, so Pixar many taken The Good Dinosaur in a whole different direction.

Waiting for Randy Newman

Of course, being Pixar there will be something in here about friendship. Randy will write us a heartwarming song to go with the key friendship plot about an adorable kid with his friend dinosaur. We know what to expect. I am betting most families will take the plunge and bring their kids. But I am hoping they will clue their kids in that this is a story, not what actually happened. On the other hand, with the way my seven year old recites the names of every dinosaur, they may be telling their parents about the truth of dinosaurs. Just sing along with Randy, everything will be fine.
