Favorite Read Aloud Storybooks for Kindergarten

read aloud storybooks

For many kids the best time in kindergarten is when the teacher pulls out their favorite real aloud storybooks for story time. I am sure we can all picture it, kids sitting on the floor in a circle while one of the teachers reads a favorite book aloud. Of course, when it comes to parents at home, read aloud storybooks for bedtime still remain an all time favorite for kids of all ages. But how to pick out a story to read aloud that your child will love, but it won’t keep them awake? We went directly to the source, kids! They told us their favorite read aloud storybooks. Here are three of their favorites worth having on hand for late night story time.

Chika Chika Boom Boom by Bill Martin, John Archambault and Lois Ehlert

This is so much fun to read aloud, and the kids will want to join in! It is told in a simple rhyme and follows the adventures of the letters of the alphabet. It all starts when “a told b, and b told c, I’ll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.” You can see how infectious the language is just from that little snippet.

Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White, Garth Williams and Rosemary Wells

This is a classic story of a little girl, her friend Wilber the pig and an amazing spider. I read this as a kid and loved reading it to my children when they were young. Some books become classics, and there is a reason that Charlotte’s Web has transcended the time when it was written and become a story about friendship that children of all ages love.

Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen and Kevin Hawkes

Libraries are special places with special rules, everyone knows this. But your kids will giggle when a lion shows up at this library. At first no one knows what to do, there are no rules in the library about lions. But when he proves perfect for leaning against while reading and a very quiet guest, the librarian decides he can stay. Then one day he proves to everyone just how handy it is to have a lion in your library! This is a beautifully illustrated book about every kid’s favorite place.
