Mom’s Circumcision Battle Continues

circumcision battle

A Florida mother who is at the center of a long-standing circumcision battle with her ex-husband over their four year old son has been found and jailed. The struggle began between Heather Hironimus and her ex-husband Dennis Nebus in 2013 when the father wanted to have his son circumcised. The parenting plan they had both signed allowed for the procedure, but the mother changed her mind and fought it. When the courts ruled she had to allow it according to the agreement, she took her son and fled.

Circumcision Battle Front Moves To Jail

The mother took her son to a domestic violence shelter where she remained out of sight of the law and her ex-husband for the last few months. During that time the father had applied to the courts to retain custody of his son and proceed with the plans he had made. When the courts ordered her to turn the boy over to her father, she refused to attend the hearing and deputies were sent to bring her to jail.

The Battle Of The Court Orders

The boy has been placed in his father’s custody through an emergency filing by the court. The mother has countered this act by filing a restraining order against Nebus, the Circuit Court judge and Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw. There is currently a federal court motion to block the circumcision by the mother and both parties are being told to maintain the status quo until the federal courts can resolve the issue.
