Good News For Jimmy

"Countdown To Zero: Defeating Disease" Preview - Press Conference

Former President Jimmy Carter announced Sunday he no longer has cancer. In his statement, he revealed he would continue with his current cancer treatments, declaring:

“My most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones. I will continue to receive regular three-week immunotherapy treatments of pembrolizumab.”

According to an AJC source, the 91 year old initially made his announcement during the beginning of his Sunday school class he teaches at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains. No one was aware of the upcoming news, not even his closest friends; which only added to the gratitude and thankfulness resonating in the air form the news.

James Carter, Jimmy Carter’s grandson, confirmed his grandfather’s test results stating,

“There’s no cancer in his body at this point. He’s not going to stop doing the treatment, but at this point, there’s no cancer. It’s incredible news.”

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate announced in August that doctors had found four cancerous spots on his brain. When asked about the future, Carter proclaimed his fate was “in the hands of God, whom I worship.” While Carter’s doctors defer any comment requests, experts have stated the former President isn’t out of the woods yet. The recent test results indicate there is no present cancer in his brain or liver, there could be cancerous cells still living in his blood. However, Carter is in the best possible scenario for his situation; and when only a few short years ago, melanoma was a death sentence, this news is very encouraging.
