First Ever Latina Disney Princess

One of the great things about Disney is their ability to inspire, so it came as no surprise when Disney recently announced the introduction of a brand new princess – Elena. The exciting new character is set to be introduced on the Disney Junior children’s show hit Sofia the First and in 2016, the Elena of Avalor television series will launch.

Princess Elena is the first ever Disney Latina princess. She is bold, caring, clever, funny, and will be voiced by ABC Family’s Young & Hungry star Aimee Carrero. Her journey begins when a wicked sorceress named Shuriki takes Elena’s parents and kingdom. During the attack, Elena courageously faces the villainous sorceress to protect her sister and grandparents, but in a wild turn of events ends up imprisoned in her magical amulet. Many years later, Princess Sofia of Enchancia (Sofia the First) discovers the truth about the amulet she was given and sets out to help restore 16 year old Elena to her human form and her kingdom of Avalor.

As with all programming on the Disney Junior channel, Elena of Avalor stories will be created using a curriculum that will help nourish your child’s development in multiple areas including lessons about leadership, compassion, the importance of family, diversity, and family traditions. The series is slated to be presented in 25 different languages on the various Disney Junior channels as part of their daily program blocking for children ages 2 to 7, estimating a daily reach of over 207 million households.
