  1. Be realistic about the durability of what you’re saving

Linens of any kind—baby clothes, baby blankets, special tee-shirts, just don’t save well enough for…whatever you’re saving them for. They certainly don’t preserve well enough for re-use for your children’s children. I was at a friend’s studio New York City apartment when two giant boxes full of his childhood blankets, clothes, and stuffed animals showed up. Even though they were carefully pressed and sealed they smelled horrible after two decades worth of storage. He saved one clown. Which he gave to my daughter. Because she loved it.
